Chase Meidroth makes White Sox history on Opening Day

There seems to be a small glimmer of hope early on in the 2026 MLB season for the Chicago White Sox.
The White Sox finished 2025 with a 60-102 record, but it started with a bang against the Milwaukee Brewers on Opening Day at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wis.
White Sox second baseman Chase Meidroth kicked things off with a leadoff home run, and it marked the first time in franchise history that a leadoff home run was hit on Opening Day.

Meidroth was one of four players acquired from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Garrett Crochet.
Meidroth made his MLB debut in 2025, and he played in 122 games, hitting .2653 with five home runs in 450 at-bats.
But, in his first at-bat of the season, Meidroth smacked a home run to left-center field to give the White Sox an early lead and put his name into franchise record books.
Unfortunately, the lead quickly disappeared as the Brewers scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
