Jameis Winston cracks crab legs joke during Netflix Opening Day coverage
by Dan Benton

During Netflix’s coverage of MLB’s 2026 Opening Night, New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston served up more than just color commentary.
While visiting the Crazy Crab stand at Oracle Park ahead of the San Francisco Giants’ matchup against the New York Yankees, host Elle Duncan could not resist addressing the elephant in the room, or perhaps the crustacean.
Duncan asked the former Heisman Trophy winner if he had paid for his crab legs at the ballpark concession. Winston, ever the showman, didn’t flinch and delivered a hilariously viral moment.
“Well, Elle, I may or may not be plotting to get some fresh crab legs,” Winston quipped. “But a trusted source told me that ever since Barry Bonds retired from the San Francisco Giants, that sales have skyrocketed due to the decrease of baseball-related crab deaths.”
With a grin, Winston added, “My history with crab legs, y’all may know.”
The lighthearted quip referenced Winston’s infamous 2014 college incident at Florida State, when he received a civil citation for allegedly taking crab legs and crawfish from a Publix in Tallahassee without paying.
Winston later maintained that an employee had given them to him for free, though the store disputed the claim after review. The matter was resolved without further record if sanctions were met.
Winston has long embraced the story with humor, turning a youthful misstep into reliable comedic material. His easy delivery during the broadcast drew laughs and highlighted his natural on-camera presence.
In a night meant to kick off the baseball season with fresh energy, Winston reminded everyone that sometimes the best plays involve a little self-deprecating wit.
