Harold Greene, a longtime Los Angeles television news anchor and reporter whose career included prominent roles at ABC7, died earlier this week at age 82, his family confirmed today.
Greene began his journalism career as a producer and reporter in 1970 before working in San Diego and San Francisco, ABC7 reported.
He returned to ABC7 in 1982 and anchored the station’s 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts until 2000. His career also included work at KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV, where he remained until retiring in 2008.
Greene earned multiple Emmy, Golden Mike and Edward R. Murrow awards during his career. He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In a social media post, Greene’s family said, “We have a feeling he’s already settling into the great newsroom in the sky, no doubt with a few suggestions on how things should be run.”
No cause of death was released.
His family plans to hold a memorial service after the holidays and invited friends, former colleagues and viewers to share photos and memories of Greene, according to TheDesk.Net.
