The San Francisco Giants, like the rest of the baseball world, are playing catch-up to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

While they are unlikely to have the same success Los Angeles is having in the offseason, the Giants can still make noise with a major signing.

One name being linked to San Francisco is left-hander Framber Valdez, who remains a free agent.

According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, the Giants are intensifying talks to land the 32-year-old Valdez, who has pitched his entire career in the big leagues thus far with the Houston Astros.

Valdez could be a nice pickup for San Francisco, which needs to address its rotation depth.

Logan Webb is the undisputed ace of the Giants’ pitching staff, while Robbie Ray, Tyler Mahle, Adrian Houser, and Landen Roupp are among the names in the mix behind him. Valdez can strengthen that group and be a dependable asset down the road in the postseason.

He’s won a World Series with the Houston Astros, and while he’s not been an All-Star since 2023, the Dominican hurler has posted a decent 3.03 ERA in the last two seasons.

Should he land with the Giants, Valdez can enjoy the benefits of throwing on the mound at the pitcher-friendly Oracle Park in San Francisco, Calif.
